Languages
“One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way.” ― Frank Smith
My name is Mrs Cummings and I'm languages lead here at Waberthwaite School. At Waberthwaite we learn French as our main second language however we do at times also learn elements of another language. For example, we have been very lucky to have learned some Chinese through video calls with our link school, St Bee's Szechuang, in China.
French:
Here pupils learn French following the Kapow scheme of work. Units are organised to allow for progression in learning regardless of the cycle of learning that children enter these classes.
Exploring other languages:
We had a "sing and sign" assembly with local Makaton tutor, Karen Baxter. We learnt that Makaton includes symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate. We were able to sing and sign: 'The Big Ship Sails' and 'A Sky Full of Stars'.
